The Egyptian Cabinet revealed on Tuesday, that the country recently advanced to the 48th rank in the indicators of political empowerment of women in a global report on gender gap.
“Egypt has reached its best level of progress in empowering women in a decade. In 2021, Egypt ranked at the 78th position compared to 126th in 2011”, the report indicated.
Egypt advanced 70 positions in the indicator of women representation in parliament, where it previously occupied the 66th in 2021 and 136th in 2020. Additionally, it advanced 5 positions in the education indicator for women, as it occupied the 105th position in 2021, compared to 110 in 2011.
According to several reports and reviews on the progress made through the developmental initiative ‘Haya Karima’ proved that women are the main and biggest beneficiaries of the initiative.
The percentage of female representations in the House of Representatives increased to 27.8% in 2022, with 165 seats, compared to 14.9% with 89 seats in 2016. Representations in judiciary positions hiked to 3,115 female judges in 2022 compared to 2,130 in 2014.
