The ‘Strawberry Moon’, also called ‘Giant Moon’, phenomenon decorated the skies of Egypt and the Arab world throughout Tuesday night.
The June occurring phenomenon is associated with the strawberry season in North America. The name was first used by native Americans, because it coincides with the harvesting season of strawberries. It appears a week ahead of the summer solstice in the Northern half of the planet.
People can see the Strawberry Moon, when the moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit. It appears larger and brighter than a typical full moon. The Strawberry Moon usually indicates the last full moon of the spring season and the beginning of summer.
Although the strawberry full moon reaches its peak on Thursday afternoon, it will not be visible on the horizon until late in the evening. This year’s giant moon will not feature the strawberry pink hue, but rather will have a more golden colour.
Astronomy enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch the amazing phenomenon from Wednesday morning until Saturday morning. The Strawberry Moon occurs between 13 and 15 June. The peak of the full moon was on Tuesday night, when the moon’s disk is complete and its brightness reaches 99.7%.
