UNSMIL concerned over developments in Libya

Egypt Today

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed concern over recent developments in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

“The mission received reports about the deployment of groups armed with heavy weapons in Tripoli areas, which poses danger to civilians”, a statement by the UNSMIL read.

“Such developments come at a very sensitive time of wide political polarisation. The mission and international partners are exerting strenuous efforts to improve conditions in the North African country and pave the way for a constitutional framework and National elections”, UNSMIL stressed.

The mission appealed to all Libyan security and political parties to exercise a maximum level of responsibility to end their differences.
