The Egyptian Ambulance Authority contracted the Suez Canal Authority to manufacture six marine ambulance boats last Thursday.

The boats will operate around Egyptian coasts in the Red Sea and South Sinai governorates to serve the tourism sector, cruises, fishing trips and various marine activities.

“The vessels will include medical equipment, infection control equipment and first aid. Marine ambulance centres will be established in the Red Sea and South Sinai governorates. This will be part of the Egyptian ambulance services system to serve the marine sector”, said marine officials in the Red Sea governorate.

“The marine ambulance is a rapid response service which provide emergency service to those injured and drowned in diving accidents on water bodies”, Ayman Taher, a diving consultant and environmental expert, confirmed.

A technical committee was formed to determine the requirements of the marine ambulance centres to cover the Red Sea and South Sinai. The authority will establish two marine ambulance centres serving the North and South of Hurghada and two other centres North and South of Marsa Alam.
