RATP Dev Mobility Cairo, the company operating the third Cairo Metro (subway) line, celebrated the graduation of the first Egyptian female Metro train drivers on Monday.
The training programme was conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and the Administration of National Authority for Tunnels (NAT). RATP Dev Mobility Cairo is part of the French state-owned transportation operator RATP.
“The cooperation with RATP Dev Mobility Cairo achieves the objectives of the authority and the Ministry of Transport in general, especially with its global expertise in the transport and communications”, Essam Wali, head of National Authority for Tunnels.
Wadii Bouchiha, CEO of RATP Dev Mobility Cairo, said “the trained women who passed the test for train driving underwent high-level training and tests to measure their suitability and skill to drive a metro train and to control it”.
He added, “the company is currently developing a metro operating system, raising maintenance levels, increasing technological features in metro stations and training Egyptian workers in the metro sector”.
Additional special courses to train conductor applicants are based on situations which train drivers may encounter. Trainees are then subjected to practical training on simulators.
