“The tangible progress in Egyptian-Qatari relations should serve joint interests and enhance efforts bolstering the security and stability of the Arab region”, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi told Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani at a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by the head of the Qatari State Security Abdullah al-Khulaifi, the Qatari Minister of Finance Ahmed al-Kuwari, the Qatari Ambassador in Cairo Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel.
“The Qatari Foreign Minister affirmed to Sisi their country’s keenness to strengthen the firm brotherly relations with Egypt in order to enhance security and stability in the region”, Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
The Egyptian and Qatari officials discussed consolidating joint bilateral relations in all fields. They also reviewed the latest regional developments and issues of mutual concern, which included the political situation in Libya.
“Qatar, like Egypt, supports the political path in Libya and the outcome of the Geneva and Berlin international conferences on Libya, which focus on impartial free elections”, said the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Qatari delegation agreed on an investment and partnership package of US$5 Billion at a meeting with the Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The investment aims at boosting economic cooperation between the two countries.
On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry and his Qatari counterpart announced the creation of a high joint committee to allow consultations, boost cooperation and coordination in all fields.
