“Over 8,000 Ukrainian tourists were repatriated from Egypt to Ukraine’s neighbouring countries in recent days on board 36 EgyptAir flights”, the Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires in Egypt Ruslan Nechai said on Wednesday.
Earlier in March, EgyptAir and Cairo Air airlines began shuttling 8,608 Ukrainian tourists Ukrainian tourists who wanted to leave at the expense of the Egyptian government.
The Ukrainian embassy in Cairo coordinated with the Egyptian Foreign and Tourism ministries to evacuate nearly 20,000 Ukrainian tourists to Poland, Hungry and Slovakia.
Nechai expressed his appreciation to the Egyptian Foreign and Tourism ministries. He also thanked the Egyptian Hotel Association for supporting and hosting Ukrainian tourists who were not able return, due the invasion.
“According to latest updates from Egypt, around 3,000 Egyptians have been evacuated from Ukraine”, Nechai revealed.
Egypt had around 6,000 Egyptians living in Ukraine, including 3,000 undergraduate students. Over the past weeks, scores of Egyptian expats crossed the borders into Romania, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
