“Egypt affirms commitment to address climate change and women’s empowerment”, President of the National Council for Women (NCW), Maya Morsy told the 66th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66).

The CSW66, running between 14 and 25 March, is held under the theme “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes”.

Morsy explained the Egyptian government’s perspective on addressing climate change along with all aspects of empowering Egyptian women. “The strategy highlights the importance of promoting gender sensitive issues within climate adaptation, mitigation, and responses”, Morsy said.

“The Egyptian perspective is based on enhancing women’s voice, active participation in environmental governance and providing leveraging opportunities for women towards achieving just environmental transition to the green economy and green consumption habits”, she added.

Morsy invited all CSW66 participants to visit Egypt and partake in the 27th Conference (COP27), in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
