Blinken voices US committed to bolster regional stability and human rights with Egypt

“The US is committed to fostering partnership with Egypt to bolster regional stability and respect for human rights”, the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said on Friday.

On Twitter, Blinken said he “spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Ukraine, Libya, and regional developments”.

“Shoukry and Blinken discussed means of boosting cooperation with the aim of enhancing and expanding bilateral relations as desired by the two sides”, a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.

In November, the officials held the US-Egypt Strategic Dialogue in Washington for the first time in six years.

At the dialogue, the United States reiterated President Joe Biden’s support to Egypt’s water security, a joint statement by Cairo and Washington read. Both sides discussed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue.

In addition, they discussed several issues including the Libyan crisis, Sudan, and the humanitarian crises in Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
