The ceremony was organised in coordination with the Egyptian Embassy in Italy, the Council of Arab Ambassadors and the Arab League mission in Rome.

The celebration was attended by Egyptian Ambassador to Italy, Alaa Rushdy, and several ambassadors from Arab and European countries.

“The celebration highlighted the diversified program which began with the inauguration of an Arabic calligraphy exhibition”, said Heba Youssef, head of the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome.

“Four Arab doctors residing in Italy, who have made outstanding contributions during the last 2 years in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, were honoured on the Arab Expatriate Day”, she added.

For the first time in the academy’s history, the exhibition included works by artists from nine Arab countries: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Iraq, Morocco and Oman.

“The event witnessed the screening of a documentary showcasing examples of Egyptian architecture and Islamic artistic masterpieces, which were beautified with Arabic calligraphy and motifs”, Youssef said.

Egyptian Minister of Culture, Inas Abdel Dayem, said; “the celebration coincides with the inscription of Arabic calligraphy on UNESCO’s urgently safeguarded lists of invaluable cultural heritage”.
