‘Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development’ launches virtually

The second annual ‘Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development’ kicked off virtually, on Monday. The forum is organized by ‘The Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping’.

Sameh Shokry, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered the opening speech at the event which take place on 1-5 March, under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

Presidents of Egypt, Rwanda, South Sudan, Gabon, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, Burundi, the United Nations secretary-general and the president of Congo, chairman of African Union (AU) delivered speeches in the opening session titled ‘Post COVID-19 Recovery: Strengthening Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa’.

Sessions on recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of COVID-19, combating terrorism in the time of pandemic are scheduled to be held later on Monday.
