Egyptian Foreign Minister and president-designate of COP 27, Sameh Shokry, took part in the sixth Ministerial Meeting on Climate Work held in the Swedish capital Stockholm on Tuesday.
The Minister delivered a speech highlighting the salience of implementing climate pledges and the Paris Climate Agreement. He stressed the necessity of reinforcing international climate work; particularly in the realms of adaptation, emission reduction, assessment of losses and damages, and securing climate funding.
“Egypt aims to build on the momentum engendered by COP 26 and push forward climate work at COP 27 it is hosting in Sharm El Sheikh on November 7-18”, Shokry added.
He explained “Egypt is communicating with the states, governments, private enterprises, financial institutions, NGOs, think-tanks and academics taking part in COP 27 to ensure the issuance of balanced outcomes”.
The meeting was attended by the executive vice-president of the European Union Commission for the Green Deal, Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change, special climate envoy of China, COP 26 president, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and ministers of other participating countries.
