A memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Ministry of environment and ‘Energy 3’ was signed on Sunday to establish a waste recycling facility for the production of biofuel and graphene in the Fayoum governorate.

“The Global Environment Facility had granted Egypt $8 Million to localise electronic and medical waste recycling technology. It had equally granted Egypt $8.1 Million to activate the Sustainable Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (PoPs) Project”, Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad stated on Sunday.

The World Bank Group’s Pollution Management and Environmental Health Trust Fund (PMEH) supported the project providing $750,000. The funding helped Egypt dispose of 1,000 tons of toxic pesticides and oils contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

The total cost of the project amount to $23 Million mostly provided through several Egyptian ministries. It features a direct positive impact on 1.4 million citizens and 3.1 million indirectly.
