Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi congratulated French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for winning the presidential elections on Sunday.
“Egyptian-French historical relations were, and still are, close and growing. We look forward to continuing consultations and mutual coordination on regional and international files of common interest”, Sisi tweeted.
Macron won a second term in office, defeating his opponent far-right leader Marine Le Pen by 58.2% to 41.8% of the French vote. Macron became the first French president to win two consecutive terms in the past 20 years.
Macron, who ran as an independent candidate, neither from the right nor from the left, represents the model of the French intelligentsia. He worked as a former senior state employee then as a business banker, which was followed by a presidential advisor before establishing his own political movement leading him steadily to Elysee.
He was born on 21 December 1977 in the city of Amiens, Northern France, to parents were medical doctors.
Macron’s political career began in the era of François Hollande, 2007-2012. He assumed the position of Assistant Secretary-General of the Presidency and Adviser to Socialist President Hollande. He then became the youngest Minister of Economy (in 2014) in the history of France at the age of 36, since the era of Valéry Giscard-d’Estaing.
