‘Safe Woman Clinic’ support abused Egyptian women

‘Safe Woman Clinic’, the first psychotherapy clinic dedicated to abused women has been inaugurated by the Ministry of Health in a Cairo neighbourhood on Tuesday.

The clinic provides first aid in case of injury, psychological counselling, therapy and self-defence techniques. The ‘Safe Woman Clinic’ will be first launched in 21 Cairo neighbourhoods, and later expanded to all Egyptian regions.

Egypt has a female population of 48.7 million. It holds a global ranking of 102 in terms of education among women, 103rd in women’s political empowerment, 140th for female economic empowerment, and 85th in women’s health.

According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), “the drop in unemployed females recorded 16.8% in the fourth quarter of 2020, compared to 22.7% during the same period in 2019”.

Women make up 24% of the Egyptian Cabinet, as there are 8 female ministers out of a 33 cabinet members. As for the House of Representatives, the constitution allocated a minimum of 162 female seats (28.5%) out of 568 seats. In addition. the constitution grants women a minimum of 10% of the 300 seats in the Senate.
