11 Egyptian sailors stranding at Ukraine’s Kherson port repatriated home

Eleven Egyptian sailors stuck in the Ukrainian port of Kherson were rescued and returned home on a Russian plane on Thursday.

The sailors were aboard a commercial ship at the Kherson port when the city fell under Russian control. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry coordinated with the Russian embassy in Cairo and the Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow, Nazih al-Negary to repatriate the sailors.

On Wednesday, Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram bestowed her Ministry’s shield on an Egyptian citizen who saved the lives of Arabs and Egyptians during the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

“The Egyptian citizen, identified as Islam al Ashiry, managed to save the lives of tens of civilians and took them out of Ukraine despite the risk of war”, the Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates said in a statement.

Al-Ashiry said at the honouring ceremony, that he drove his car in rugged areas in Ukraine for three days to save the lives of Egyptians and Arab civilians. He managed to get them out of Ukraine and into neighbouring countries.
