Amid global concerns of an emerging COVID-19 variant XE the Egyptian Ministry of Health called on all Egyptians to register for their COVID-19 vaccines and boosters when invited by the Ministry via SMS messages.

On Tuesday, spokesman of the Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar called on “everyone who is 18 years of age and above to take the vaccine and the booster”.

Egyptian health authorities are seeking to maintain success against the novel virus, especially as infection rates and hospitalisations continue to decrease significantly.

“Mutants of the virus generally develop to be weaker, meanwhile available vaccines remain effective against them. Egyptians must maintain social distancing and wearing masks”, says Abdel Ghaffar.

On Saturday, health officials revealed that the average number of daily new COVID-19 infections fell to 400 patients over the past week. Health data indicate that patient recoveries averaged at 532, in addition to seven daily deaths registered.
