Executive Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans expressed his optimism on the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC) COP27 at a press conference in Egypt on Monday.
“The participation of world leaders in the next UN Climate Change Conference COP27 is set for Sharm El-Sheikh in November. It is a key opportunity for bringing forth and carrying out new ideas toward enhancing new and renewable energy sources usage”, Timmermans said.
“Egypt is an ideal partner for developing floated ideas concerning the use of new and renewable energy and hydrogen sources, especially in the light of its strategic location in the Mediterranean and the African Continent”, he added.
Timmermans confirmed that Egypt and the EU are currently coordinating their future cooperation. “Egypt, with its giant natural resources, could produce energy that far surpasses its needs, thus export the surplus to Europe”, he explained.
The EU recently reaffirmed its keenness to cooperate with Egypt on liquified gas, supplies of green hydrogen and development of the Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Partnership.
