The Arab League’s Ukrainian crisis liaison group will hold meetings with Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers in Moscow and Warsaw on Monday and Tuesday to seek a diplomatic solution to end the war.
The liaison group will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow and will hold a separate meeting with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in the Polish capital Warsaw.
“The group will seek a diplomatic solution for the crisis”, a statement by the Arab League General Secretariat on Saturday read.
Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Sudan and the UAE are group members. The UAE is a current member of the United Nations Security Council. The crisis group was set up at the 157th session of the League Ministerial Council in March. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry coordinated with other group members through a virtual meeting on Saturday.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit has expressed his deep concern over developments in Ukraine, including the “serious military and humanitarian consequences”.
The Russian-Ukrainian conflict disrupted supply chains of wheat from the Black Sea ports to the Middle East and North Africa region. International market Wheat prices soared because of the war.
