Sisi and Burhan consolidate Egyptian-Sudanese ties

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Chairman of the Sudan Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan discussed issues of mutual concern in a meeting in Cairo on Wednesday.

Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to support Sudan via assistance packages, logistic and humanitarian aid. Cairo vowed to continue its technical support to the Sudanese institutions and activate programs on bilateral cooperation.

The Egyptian and Sudanese sides agreed on the need to enhance joint economic relations and boost trade exchange.

They voiced readiness to maximize efforts on achieving agricultural integration and rail and power linkage. The discussion tackled security and military cooperation to achieve common interests.

Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

“The two sides reviewed developments in relation to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). They agreed to intensify their mutual coordination and consultations in the coming period”, a joint statement read.

The leaders expressed their aspiration to reach a fair and legally binding agreement on the filling and operations of the dam.

Safeguarding Libyan stability

Egypt and Sudan highlighted the necessity to preserve the Libyan stability and territorial integrity. They stressed their support to all efforts aiming to reach a Libyan-Libyan political solution, which achieves the interests of Libya without foreign interference.

The two sides affirmed their support for the Libyan state institutions and persist with their demand for the exit of all foreign troops according to regional and United Nations international resolutions.
