Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated in the ‘Negev summit’ with five counterparts from Bahrain, Israel, Morocco, UAE and USA on Monday.

“The meeting of the six focused on addressing challenges to peace in the region”, Shoukry said at a press conference.

Participants in the summit highlighted the importance of the peace process between Palestine and Israel. They stressed the need to resolve challenges facing the Middle East region.

Shoukry affirmed the Egyptian stance which supports the two-state solution between Palestine and Israel based on the 1967 borders.

“We are here for peace. The FMs of the Negev summit discussed ways of enhancing cooperation, combating violence and confronting terrorism”, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

The summit was held a week before the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, which saw heavy clashes between Israel and Palestine last year.
