Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry attended the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The two-day session is themed ‘Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice and Development’. It deals with numerous economic, cultural, social, humanitarian, scientific and Islamophobia related issues. Participants discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, Yemen, Libya, the Republic of Sudan, Somalia, Syria and other regional issues.

“Participants will highlight African issues, especially those of the African Sahel region and will stress the importance of providing the necessary support to the Sahel countries to maintain stability and security and combat terrorist groups”, the OIC said.

The session oversees cooperation with international partners, including the United Nations, the Russian Federation, and the European Union. The CFM will focus on international terrorism, conflict resolution, Muslim group affairs and communities in non-member states.

The OIC was established in 1969 following the criminal arson of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem. It is the second largest organisation in the world behind the United Nations with a membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The Organisation is the collective voice of the Muslim world. It focuses on safeguarding and protecting the interests of the Muslim world, while promoting international peace and harmony.
