Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi agreed to intensify cooperation to combat terrorism and organised crime with Tajikistani counterpart Emomali Rahmon, at a meeting in Cairo on Thursday.

“Relations with Tajikistan have been growing. We are examining opportunities for cooperation to modernise irrigation systems, hydropower, mining, agriculture, tourism, health and pharmaceuticals”, Sisi said.

Rahmon affirmed his country’s ambitions to “cooperate with Egypt in the sectors of transport, telecommunications, and investment”.

At a joint press conference with President Sisi, the Tajik President launched a joint business council to bolster trade between both countries.

The Tajik delegation signed with Egyptian counterparts several Memorandums of Understanding (MOU), including one to establish joint pharmaceutical factories.
