“Egyptian stocks of wheat are sufficient for four months”, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly told a press conference on Wednesday.
“The wheat’s harvesting season will start in mid-April. Egypt has enough wheat and will not resort to the international market until late 2022”, the PM explained.
Madbouly confirmed “the government is setting up more outlets to provide commodities at affordable prices”.
The conflict between Russia and the Ukraine has put global wheat supplies under increased pressure. Many countries are import their wheat supplies from Russia and Ukraine.
According to a 2019 report by the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), “Egypt is the largest wheat importer in the world, followed by Turkey, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nigeria among 13 other countries importing from Russia and Ukraine.
