“The EU is ready to engage more to help reach a satisfactory agreement for all parties involved in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis”, European Union Special Representative to the Horn of Africa Annette Weber said on Tuesday.

“Building trust between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will lead to an agreement that is satisfactory for all. It will ensure regional integration in areas which include energy, water, infrastructure, trade and climate mitigation adaptation efforts”, Weber told the Egyptian press in Cairo.

She stressed that the EU along with the US and the United Nations are observers in the African Union led mediation efforts in the Ethiopian dam crisis.

“Security in the Red Sea could be affected by the deteriorating conditions in some African countries overlooking the Red Sea, especially the situation in Sudan and Ethiopia’s Tigray”, Weber added.

She praised the important role played by Egypt in ensuring the security and stability of the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
