COVID-19 infections fall below 2,000 first time since January

The Egyptian Ministry of Health confirmed, “1,989 new COVID-19 infections were recorded on Tuesday, raising the total number of infections to 473,449”.

This is the first-time health authorities record a daily infections rate below 2,000, since 28 January 2022. The Ministry’s data revealed “51 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 23,857”.

“Patient recoveries have so far reached 403,967, following the release of 1,846 patients from isolation wards”, Ministry’s spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar confirmed in a statement.

The country’s vaccination campaign has administered 39,257,835 first vaccine doses in addition to 29,689,805 second shots and 985,931 booster shots.

“Egypt produced over 30 million doses of the effective and safe Sinovac/VACSERA COVID-19 vaccine”, acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced on Monday.

Over one hundred million COVID-19 vaccine doses reached Egypt so far. The country began drawing plans to locally manufacture mRNA vaccines.
