Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi called for the support against climate change in Africa through a concessional climate funding, at a climate session during the European Union – African Union Summit on Friday.

“Egypt seeks to conclude the UN climate summit COP27 with balanced and implementable results to raise the ambition of climate action in terms of reducing emissions and adaptation”, Sisi said.

He stressed the importance of “supporting the fair transition of energy in the African continent”, as a part of global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support the green transition.

Sisi called for an urgent funding to implement numerous electrical interconnection projects in Africa. The projects were agreed upon by several African countries in the list of projects of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).

The session witnessed an open dialogue on efforts to strengthen the partnership between Europe and Africa in the context of international climate action. World leaders agreed on the importance of intensifying coordinated work and a common vision to confront climate change.
