“A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cultural heritage exchanges and cooperation was signed between the Korean Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) and the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities on 21 January”, the South Korean embassy in Cairo announced on Monday.
The agreement consolidates future cooperation plans in all areas of cultural heritage, which include archaeological excavations and restoration, combating the illicit trade of cultural properties, supporting digital technology, official development assistance (ODA) projects, cooperation in inscribing new UNESCO World Heritage sites and the exchange of academic, human, and material resources.
Waziri and Hyun-mo reviewed means to strengthen cultural heritage cooperation by applying South Korea outstanding conservation and restoration technology to restore the Ramesseum Temple. They also agreed to digitise and build a platform for the collection of Egypt’s six important museums and research institutes including the Egyptian Museum, Coptic Museum, the Archaeological Research Centre and other cultural institutions.
