“According to the latest study, 254 babies are born every hour, which means at least 4 children are born every minute”, Khaled Maher, an Egyptian official at the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), said on Tuesday

“18.2% of women are breadwinners. More than the half of them reside in rural villages, with 25.6% being in Upper Egypt, and 29% in Lower Egypt”, Maher added.

As for the aspects of expenditure of Egyptian families; 19.2% of their income goes to rent; 31.1% for foodstuff; 5.7% spent on education; 10% on healthcare and 2.3% for entertainment.

Last week, CAPMAS announced that the Egyptian population reached 102,746,000, with a growth rate of 250,000 in just 60 days.

“Since 2014, the Egyptian population has been increasing by 2.4 million per annum. As such, the population may double to become 200 million by 2050…The largest age bracket is 0 to 10”, Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouli, said last October.

“The accrual budget deficit until 2030, where the population is estimated to reach 125 million, will be over £E600 Billion”, he added.

Over the past few years, Egyptian authorities began raising awareness on the dangers of overpopulation.
