Egypt signed cooperation programme with Switzerland contributing to Egypt’s transition towards a green economy and adaption to climate change. The program agreement was signed on Thursday by Minister of International Cooperation, Rania al-Mashat. It will run from 2021 and 2024.
“Our cooperation with Egypt comes within the priorities of the Swiss strategy for international cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa 2021-2024. Egypt plays a pivotal role in the region and is Switzerland’s key partner in the Southern Mediterranean”, said Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
“Switzerland will support Egypt in its transition; through innovative contributions across sectors of clean energy, green financing, supporting macro economy reforms and improving the business environment”, said head of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs Economic Cooperation and Development, Dominique Paravicini.
Swiss State Secretary of Economic Affairs, Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, expressed her “pride in the long-term cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland”. She hailed the achieved results and voiced her aspiration to pursue common goals through the new programme.
The partnership between Egypt and Switzerland spans over 40 years. Switzerland contributed over 700 Million Swiss francs to finance 200 projects in several sectors in Egypt.
