Qena welcomes ‘youth empowerment’ $3M USAID

The upper Egyptian governorate of Qena witnessed the launch of a $3 Million program for empowerment of the youth socially and economically on Wednesday.

The initiative is operated under the auspices of the Egyptian Foundation for Integrated Development (Nidaa) and funded by the United States’ Agency for International Development (USAID).

“The program targets 1,520 young men and women, families and community leaders to create a common vision for community development. It aims to empower girls and women in rural areas from different social and cultural backgrounds in education”, a statements of Dr. Walid Bariqa, the Executive Director of the Nidaa Foundation read.

Dr. Bariqa confirmed; “the program will be implemented in 12 of the neediest villages in the governorates of Qena and Minya (eight in Qena and four in Minya) over a period of three years”.

The program will organise campaigns to raise awareness of gender issues and harmful practices, besides holding training programs on boosting interpersonal skills.
