Belgium sent back Egypt two ancient Egyptian artefacts smuggled out of the country. The artefacts were received by the Egyptian ambassador to Belgium, Khaled al-Baqly, in attendance with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labour Pierre-Yves Dermagne, on Saturday.

The recovered artefacts include a coloured limestone statue of a standing man resting on a base dating back to the Old Kingdom. Another ushabti figurine made of faience dating back to the Late Period was also retrieved.

“This represents the distinguished relations between Egypt and Belgium and paves the way for more coordination especially in recovering smuggled Egyptian antiquities”, Baqly stressed.

The Egyptian ambassador in Brussels invited the Belgian people to visit tourist destinations in Egypt and get acquainted with the history of the ancient Egyptian civilisation.
