Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Rania al-Mashat, confirmed, on Tuesday, that “Canada has activated a $500,000 grant, as a contribution to the priorities of the Egyptian government and the Ministry of Health to combat the negative effects of the Corona pandemic”.
The Ministry of Health allocated the sum to provide a number of necessary devices and equipment to ‘Al-Abbasiya Chest Hospital’.
Canada issued the grant during a Tuesday meeting of the International Cooperation and Health Ministers in attendance of the Canadian ambassador to Egypt, Louis Duma, and the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program in Egypt, Randa Abu al-Hassan.
“The meeting discussed ways of cooperation to support the health sector in Egypt in its response to the Corona pandemic”, according to a statement by the Ministry of International Cooperation.
“The Ministry of International Cooperation seeks to advance development efforts in various sectors, through the principles of economic diplomacy. It is a joint coordination cooperation platform, matching development finance with the UN goals of sustainable development, and listing international participation, within the framework of three factors: the citizen is the focus of attention, the ongoing projects and the goal is the driving force”, al-Mashat explained.
The Canadian-Egyptian development cooperation portfolio has reached 34 Million Canadian dollars in 2021, which were dispersed to various sectors including women, youth empowerment and other areas.
