NMEC ready to display royal Egyptian mummies to visitors on Sunday

After parading from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square in Cairo to their new home in Fustat’s National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), 22 royal mummies will be ready for viewing on Sunday.

All mummies have been placed in custom built cases inside the new ‘Mummies Hall’ in preparation for receiving visitors on Sunday. The World Heritage Day will be celebrated globally on Sunday 18 April.

“The sarcophagi were installed inside the hall and work is underway to fit the rest of the coffins and artifacts of Kings Amenhotep II and Tuthmosis IV”, Executive Vice President of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Enas Gaafar, explained.

Entry tickets includes visiting the ‘Mummies Hall’ and the central display area are prices start at £E60 for Egyptians (£E30 for students) and £E200 for foreigners (£E100 for foreign students).
