The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) witnessed a huge turnout from visitors on the first day of operation on 4 April. The museum was officially inaugurated by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the ‘Golden Pharaohs’ Parade’ on 3 April.

“We did not expect this huge number of visitors on the first day. Many people were keen to visit the museum once it was open, to the point that we closed the hall more than once, due to the increase in the number of visitors of different age groups, in order to maintain social distancing”, said Head of the NMEC Ahmed Ghoneim.

Ghoneim added, “I was keen to pass by all visitors and ask them about their first impression of the museum”, adding, “all the feedbacks were positive”.

A report by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities indicated that “the museum sold 800 tickets on its first day”.

The museum’s official page features an online ticketing platform. An electronic ticketing platform for museum entry tickets were launched.

The museum is offering a 50% discount until 17 April 2021. Museum tickets cost £E200 for foreigners, £E100 pounds for foreign students, £E60 for Egyptians, and £E30 for Egyptian students.
