NEA releases parliamentary elections candidate list

Egypt’s National Elections Authority (NEA) revealed the final list of candidates for the House of Representatives elections on Monday evening. The elections are scheduled to commence later this month.

“The list was announced at the conclusion of a review of all High Administrative Court rulings on appeals filed by excluded candidates”, the NEA said in a statement.

The NEA have set 7 October as the deadline for candidates to concede contested seats to competitors. These concessions will be published in any two widely circulated newspapers on 8 October.

The elections will take place over two stages between 21 October and 14 December. The first stage will cover 14 governorates and take place from 21 October to 30 November, while the second stage will cover 13 governorates and will take place from 4 November till 14 December.

The 568-seat assembly will be filled via the individual candidacy system and closed party list system equally as per the recent amendments to the elections law.
