Egypt resumes international tourism in July

Cairo – Times of Egypt:

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anany announced, on Monday, the resumption of international tourism on 1 July 2020.

“The main summer destinations in Egypt: Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada and Marsa Matrouh will be the first to open on this date, while other destinations will follow gradually”, said Anany at a joint press conference held with the Minister of Aviation.

He added that the decision was made following a slow spread of the virus in the sea resort governorates, as result of efforts made by the ministries of Health and Tourism.

“Pandemic protocols elaborated by the government from the very beginning of its spread, according to the directives of the World Health Organisation (WHO), are thoroughly applied under tight control from the government and specialised authorities”, said Anany.

“Besides the official control, the ministry has outsourced three international auditing companies for surveillance and control of the virus combating in hotels and other tourist amenities”, the minister added.

The three destinations opened for international tourism, used to receive more than 80% of European travellers flying to Egypt during the summer months.
