Arabiya.net reported on Monday, that a Qatari civil aircraft miraculously survived an Iranian missile mistakenly launched on Wednesday, 8 January.
The Saudi website of Al-Arabiya TV channel explained that a missile could have mistakenly hit a Qatari passenger jet near Tehran’s Khomeini Airport.
Last week, Iran admitted “unintentionally” shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing all 176 people on board, most of whom were Iranians.
The Qatar Airways plane flew on the same route of the Ukrainian flight, according to its flight map, which is available online.
Flight number QR491 Boeing jet which took off at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday from Ayatollah Khomeini Airport, and arrived at 6:25 a.m. at Doha Airport, 13 minutes before the Ukrainian plane took off from the same Iranian Airport to the capital Kiev.
Al-Arabiya said that many airlines suspended flights to Tehran, fearing the same fatal mistake that killed all passengers aboard the Ukrainian jet.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency recommended airlines to avoid the Iranian airspace until further notice, according to Reuters.
