Aswan Forum supports AU’s central goals

Amr Mohamed Kandil – Egypt Today

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said, in a video published on Tuesday, that the upcoming Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development would support central goals of the African Union by seeking solutions for problems in the continent.

Shoukry said that the forum, which is set to be held on 11-12 December in Upper Egypt’s Aswan governorate, would provide a platform to tackle political and developmental aspects that concerns the African continent.

The forum is a regional and continental platform which will bring together political leaders, peace makers and development partners; with the aim of creating a sustainable link between peace and development.

“The Aswan Forum supports the central goals of the African Union by its focus on the principle of “African Solutions to African Problems” and provides a forum for addressing both the political aspects of interests to the African continent and also the developmental aspects,” Shoukry said.

“Egypt will follow up on the outcomes of the Aswan Forum by, first of all, developing, at the end of the forum, a roadmap of the ideas,” Shoukry said, adding that the president will also “provide his colleagues, during the next summit, with a review of those conclusions and thereby; it will become integrated into the agenda of the African Union.”

“Definitely this is not a one-time event,” he said, noting that the event “would be organised annually”, and would become a “fixture on the African agenda that will, I’m sure, have a very pertinent effect in terms of deliberating and reaching African solutions to African problems.”
