Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church is preparing to establish a new Convent (monastery for nuns) in Australia; an official spokesman said.
Pope Tawadros II received, on Monday, Mother Katrina and Mother Elizabeth from St. Demiana’s monastery, at the papal headquarters in St Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbasiya. They discussed the arrangements for establishing the new religious community.
The new monastery is currently under construction in the Laura district of Sydney.
There are two Coptic Orthodox dioceses in Australia with over 50 parishes, as well as three monasteries, two theological colleges and four schools.
Pope Tawadros opened the country’s first Coptic Orthodox Convent; Archangel Michael Monastery in Melbourne, in 2017.
