Civil defence forces have managed to contain a fire that broke out on Thursday at the Sharm El-Sheikh old market due to an extreme heatwave.
Eyewitnesses said the flame extended to reach several shops before the fire department got the situation under control
According to security sources, 10 fire engines were dispatched to the location. An investigation is launched in order that the exact cause of the fire can be established.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority expects the temperature to reach 45 degrees Celsius in Cairo and many other governorates. Eric Leister, a senior meteorologist, warned that the current heat wave, which extends from Egypt to Turkey, may affect the daily life of millions of people.
