2,003 COVID-19 infections in Egypt on Monday

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population reported 2,003 new COVID-19 infections and 54 new deaths on Monday. Egyp total infections have reached 471,460, while the COVID-19 death toll passed 23,806.

Daily COVID-19 reports revealed that 1,239 fully recovered patients were discharged from isolation wards. Total patient recoveries has increased to 402,121 Nationwide.

Egypt has been witnessing a steady decline in the daily number of coronavirus infections in the past two weeks, after a sharp increase in January. However, daily detected infections remain higher than 2,000 cases per day.

“Egypt is potting executive plans to produce mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in the next few months”, the Ministry of Health’s spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said on Sunday.

Last week, Egypt and five other African nations were chosen by the World Health Organzation to receive the technology needed to locally produce mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. The announcement was revealed at the African Union-European Union Summit on Friday.
