US approves $2B arms sale to Egypt

“The State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of C-130J-30 Super Hercules aircraft and related equipment for an estimated cost of $2.2 Billion”, the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said that Egypt requested the purchase 12 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft and related equipment which include radar systems. The radar systems and other equipment were estimated by the US State Department at $355 Million.

The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency said; “this proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping improve the security of a Major Non-NATO Ally which continues to be an important strategic partner in the Middle East”.

The deal will enhance Egypt’s military capabilities and standing in the region, especially after jumping to the 12th rank on the Global Fire Power 2022 list.
