Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark, congratulated Muslims on the occasion of the ‘Eid al-Adha’; on Thursday, expressing his wishes of a blessed Eid. ‘Eid al-Adha’ will fall nest Tuesday 20 July.
“Pope Tawadros wishes that feasts in general be a way that urge people to pay attention to their lives and hopes that all our days be feasts which are filled with joy”, according to a statement by the Orthodox Church.
The Pope, accompanied by a delegation from the church, to congratulate the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr Ahmed al-Tayeb at the Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar on Wednesday.
Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, issued a decree announcing 19-24 July a paid holiday for public sector employees on the occasion of the Muslim’s ‘Eid Al-Adha’ and the 23rd of July Revolution.
“Workers in the private sector will also have a paid holiday starting from Monday 19 July until Thursday 22 July”, according to the PM’s decree.
‘Eid Al-Adha’ is the most significant feast for Muslims worldwide, as it marks the end of the annual Hajj (pilgrimage) to the holy city of Mecca.
The ‘Eid Al-Adha’ honours the day when Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was ordered to sacrifice his son, Ismael. Due to Ibrahim’s obedience, God substituted Ismael with a ram and the day became a feast for Muslims.
