Egypt hosts ‘G5 Sahel’ meeting on counterterrorism

Egypt is hosting a meeting of the G5 Sahel countries and representatives of donor states between 9 and 11 February 2020.

The meeting agenda includes “cooperation mechanism between the five countries in counterterrorism, exchanging support and experiences in the fields of security and defence”.

Egypt proposed to train officers from the ‘G5 Sahel’ in counter terrorism to strengthen their stance in security and development.

‘G5 Sahel’ was established in 2014, with headquarters in Mauritania. It includes Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger. They aims to battle the threat of terrorism in West Africa and explore new developmental prospects.
