Egypt’s first handball team returned to Cairo Monday, having been crowned with the African Cup of Nations title following a win over Tunisia; host of the tournament, with a score of 27/23, which qualified the team to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
The first half of the match ended with Egypt advancing Tunisia with a result in a meeting that saw the superiority of the Pharaohs in a difficult confrontation.
The handball team qualified for the final by beating Algeria 30/27 in the semi-finals, while the Tunisian national team qualified by beating Angola 39/23 in the same round.
Quarter-final matches saw Egypt’s handball team beat Gabon 36/17, before defeating Angola 33/26 in their second meeting to qualify for the semi-finals as the first group to face Algeria.
Egypt achieved the complete mark in the first round by defeating Guinea 39/22, then Kenya 44/19 and the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a score of 28/19.
The competition was held under the same system of the World Cup for adults, which was held last year in Denmark and Germany, qualifying 8 teams from the first round to the quarter finals with direct confrontation points divided into two groups.
