Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit asserted that “restoring the collective Arab security is essential in dealing with the state of uncertainty that is prevailing in the world”.
In a lecture at the UAE Center for Strategic Studies and Researches, Abul Gheit noted that “establishing a collective security system requires consensus among members states on key priorities”.
He urged the Arab countries to “address their security priorities with an all-out clarity and transparency in order to serve the collective Arab national security”.
The Arab League chief added that, “keeping the Palestinian issue without any solution could weaken the Arabs’ ability to stand against threats and political attempts to destabilise the region”.
He said, “Turkish and Iranian threats are very much clear in Syria. Now, a serious Turkish threat in Libya has become obvious to all. Such challenges pose a major challenge to Arab national security”.
Aboul Gheit urged Arab countries to define their common interests and deter any possible threats and risks endangering the Arab region”.
